After you´ve removed the hardware, wipe and clean the cabinets to remove any grease, dust or other grime. Once you`ve finished wiping down the cabinets, sand them lightly to create a slightly roughened surface for your paint to stick to. You`ll then want to remove all the drawers and drawer fronts from the island. Use masking paper to cover the interior, floor and countertop. Next you'll want to caulk any seams between the panels and doorframes; fill any holes with wood filler. Let the wood filler dry, then sand it until it is flush with the cabinet´s surface. Wipe the cabinetry clean once again to remove any traces of dust.
If extra seating is your goal when it comes to adding an island to your kitchen, then it is important to know how to choose the right stools for your space.
If your kitchen design features exposed brick walls, wood-lined vaulted ceilings and simple white cabinetry, then you may want to consider a kitchen island that has a simple granite or marble countertop, but is lined with reclaimed wood shelving and a kick space under the island where bar stools will be placed. The overall effect of these materials is warm and inviting.
